The press relations toolbox

If you do press relations, there are some tools that can make your life easier.

I present to you a non-exhaustive and personal list tools that I use and recommend.

There are certainly alternative versions for each of them. Some tools are free, others pay, others offer several versions in “freemium” mode, I’ll let you do your research. I use a lot of paid tools but if they are well made it seems normal to me.

  • Dropbox : For share easily and quickly your HD photos and press kits with journalists. Furthermore, it allows you to work in total mobility, to find your files wherever you are, regardless of whether or not you have your usual computer with you. Sometimes I'm on the move, I have an urgent press request: from my phone I have access to my files on Dropbox online, and I just have to share a consultation link to send a photo and a press release press release requested by the journalist. This allows for extreme responsiveness, in 5 minutes, even if I'm moving, it's fixed.
  • Hivency : to create partnerships with influencers, with a third party, by offering your product. Particularly interesting for Instagram campaigns. It is better to have a beautiful tempting product which can generate beautiful photos to get the most out of this platform.
  • Getfluence  : to obtain sponsored posts, especially if you manage a campaign in Europe. GetFluence has an influencer base across Europe. I always advise choosing the option where you let the blogger write a “real” article with their freedom, its editorial line. Its readers will be more captivated by its natural and usual tone than by an article that is truly “advertising”.
  • Can go : For lay out your CP and your DP
  • Cision PRNewswire : to send a targeted press release to a relevant list of journalists, via an intermediary. Interesting for campaigns in a sector or in a country that you do not know, where you don't have your own network. Just like GetFluence for influencers, PRNewswire is really useful if you need to manage a campaign in several European countries.
  • MailChimp : to send press releases to your network. This is an alternative to sending your CP by simple email to your mailing list, it allows you to create a nice layout and know who is opening your emails. Very interesting also in my opinion, this allows people who do not want/no longer want to receive your emails to unsubscribe in one click! Believe me, if someone doesn't want to receive your emails, it's better for everyone if they no longer receive them. Never force your hand on this sort of thing.
  • Pickanews : to find mentions of your brand in European media (excluding social networks).
  • EmailFormat : to find by deduction a journalist's email
  • Analisia : For analyze an instagram account
  • DomainAuthorityChecker : to check seriousness and influence of a blog. The closer the score is to 100, the better.
  • CoverageBook : to do a numerical report at the end of a communication campaign. Either for your client if you are freelance or if you are in an agency. And otherwise your customer can use it for investors, partners, fundraising... It's very well done, especially for all the web spinoffs. For example, you can copy/paste 50 fallout links in one go, and it automatically creates a page with a link, screenshot, number of unique visitors, etc. It makes you win a crazy time and it is well presented.
  • A photographer : this is not an online tool but I cannot do this article without mentioning in the “toolbox” this essential talent necessary for a good campaign. Find a photographer!
  • This blog For understand and put yourself in place from a journalist
  • This video to put yourself in the shoes of an influencer.

As I write in my article “What is press relations?” your empathy is your number 1 asset in PR… so first of all try to know who you are addressing, understand your needs, your objectives to her, and see how you can help him achieve them. You'll get better results in the long term and make everyone's life, including yours, more enjoyable!
