Is success male?

This is the question I asked this month to the group of coaches and support professionals which I co-founded in Berlin. We had a workshop on the theme of success: what does success, or achievement, mean to you? What does it look like?

As a woman, when we ask ourselves this question, we may stumble slightly because “success” as it has been proposed to us, is quite masculine. Based on this observation (subjective, but which was unanimous in any case during our meeting), what should we do? Well, realize it and question it. Yes, a woman has the right to success, and any form of success, and can feel proud of it. However, we can also question this version of success that is often offered to us: a position of responsibility, good financial progress, possibly a person at home who takes care of all the back-up logistics. Question it not to reject it, but to check if this is what corresponds to us in our individuality, whatever our gender identity. That is to say: whether you consider yourself as man, woman, or non-binary.

So, if we really ask ourselves the question for ourselves, trying as much as possible to ignore the image that society (still) sends us, we will be able to arrive at very free conclusions, defining our own happiness in short. .

To finish, I come back to an outdated example that I often cite, because I find it amusing but nevertheless very real for me: Amanda from the American series Melrose Place was my role model growing up, a real boss lady, who did everything she wanted and was not afraid of anything, did not apologize. I don't know about your culture, but in my culture, I don't see a more telling example. I also found it interesting that she didn't seem to ask any questions about gender, feminism, etc., she was just living her life. An ideal in short! (Well, I'm a little afraid to watch the series again so don't spoil my childhood vision thank you).

There you go, those were my happy new year wishes 😉 See you soon, I wish you lots of success!

Independent since 2012, I help companies and individuals in 3 areas: communication, copywriting, and coaching. Currently based in Berlin, I co-founded a meeting group between French-speaking coaches and support staff. I offer my tailor-made services in communication and copywriting for small French companies and start-ups, or international companies wishing to establish themselves in France. For individuals, I offer coaching focused on well-being at work and alignment of personality, professional life and personal life: 1-to-1, with group and face-to-face programs, and independent online programs. .

I find that this is a question that can be asked of everyone, so at the start of the year, I ask it to you: what is success for you, what is it? your success ? Don't hesitate to tell me in the comments, your answer really interests me! Everyone has their own version and their own definition. This can include financial success, recognition in one's career, a large family, good friends, a particular project, a special feeling...? Is it linked to an outside perspective or do you define your version of success yourself?

Asking yourself this question from time to time is perhaps just as important as answering it.
